BIOGRAPHY

Carlos II, also known as the Bewitched, was king of the Crowns of Castile and Aragon. He was born on November 11, 1661 in Madrid. He was the son of Felipe IV and his second wife, Mariana de Austria.
He ascended to the throne upon the death of his father, under the tutelage and regency of his mother, until he came of age in 1675.
It seems that the successive consanguineous marriages of the royal family produced such a degeneration that Carlos grew rickety, sickly and short-sighted, as well as impotent, which would lead to a serious inheritance conflict when he died without a child and thus extinguish the Spanish branch of the House of Habsburg.
He died on November 1, 1700 in Madrid.
