DOMESTIC POLICY

Charles V spoke a lot of languages. However, he did not speak Spanish so he had problems with the nobility, who viewed him as a foreigner. People did not believe in him, they feared he would lose his power and richies. In this period Castile was suffering a crisis, and Charles used taxes to finance his appointment as Holy Roman Emperor. This provoked revolts such as the Revolt of Comuneros in 1520, the Battle of Villalar in 1521 and the Revolt of Brotherhoods between 1519 and 1523.
